Dismantling of the shuttle

The company Buran Space Corporation (BSC) took a lease of 9 years in 1999 on the shuttle BTS-002-GLI, but did not reveal the cost and other terms of the contract (commercial secret), but it was possible to take photos of the various stages of the preparation.

The preparation of the shuttle consisted in disconnecting joints between the tiles of the heat shield and in draining away the hydraulic systems.

The dismantling of the shuttle took place in a hangar of the factory EMZ. V.M.Miasitchev in the Joukovski city: first the vertical stabilizer is removed from the fuselage, then the turbojets, then the landing gears. These equipments are then brought on a barge where they will go to St Petersbourg. Over there they will be loaded on a ship and will go to Gothenburg (Sweden).
